In today’s lesson, I am going to show you the beginner’s guide to runs and fills on the piano. A run aka fill is basically a pattern of notes you can use to fill in empty space in music to make it sound fancy. Knowledge of basic music theory such as key signatures, scales, chords and arpeggios really come in handy when doing runs. I actually recommend learning improvisation on the piano, since that will give you a better understanding on what sounds good and what doesn’t. Over time, you will figure out patterns that you can re-use and modify.
