Let’s take a look at two simple 7th chords in a couple keys and use this to build those chords. If you know the notes in you major scales all you need to do is count up from your root note to the 7th, relative to that key. Once you locate that 7 note drop it a semi-tone and make it a flat. But, when it comes to making a minor chord all that needs to be done is drop the 3rd note in your triad a semi-tone as well.
