Take some piano lessons from Scott Houston “The Piano Guy.” In this video, Scott and his guest, Dave Powers, show you how to play the TV theme song from “Cheers.” Dave and Scott suggest listening to a recording of the song and trying to imitate it. You don’t want to play a song exactly as it is written in notation. Good players interpret the sheet music. Scott and Dave discuss the difference between playing the song solo style vs. accompaniment style. This song is unique in that it sounds good when you play just the melody line because it is easily recognizable. Dave gives some suggestions on how to play stride piano. They discuss in detail how to read and play slash chords.

Scott’s life goal is help you learn to play piano through piano lessons that you can take anywhere and at any time to get you started having some fun at a piano or keyboard as quickly as possible.

The following skills are covered in this video: pedal tones 170, pedaling, slash chord & stride piano. The video concludes with a great performance of the theme song from “Cheers.” Dave accompanies himself on piano.

Scott Houston is the host of The Piano Guy television series on Public Television and has taught hundreds of thousands of folks like yourself, how to have some fun on their piano or keyboard. He wants to help you get there too—as quickly as possible.
