The German title “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” literally means a little night music. However, the most accurate meaning of this German title is “A Little Serenade”. Mozart composed this serenade on 10 August 1787. This was the time he was working on his 2nd act of his opera Don Giovanni
This composition was written for a string ensemble for 2 violins, viola, cello, and perhaps a double bass. However, today it is usually played by an orchestra. The original key signature is in the key of G major. I wrote this beginning piano piece in the key of C major to make it easier to play.
