In this fifth and final instalment of my Jazz Piano for Beginners series we take a look at improvising over a longer chord progression, in the key of G major. As well as thinking a little more about right hand improvisation and scales, we think a lot more about how jazz chord progressions work, and the business of extending and substituting chords. There’s also stuff in here on creating a sense of swing and movement in jazz piano improvisation, especially in the left hand; riffs/licks in the right; phrasing and expression; coordinating left and right hands and more.
