Ragtime Piano Tutorial for Beginners – Syncopation, Stride and Practice Tips

Ragtime is a famous piano style popularised by, amongst others, Scott Joplin at the beginning of the 20th Century. It is played as a “1 and 2 and” rhythm and involved the left hand playing a bass note, usually the root of the key of the chord, and then the chord whilst the right hand plays ‘in syncopation with’ the rhythm.

In this video, we start by looking at the basic left and right hand styles, putting them together and adding a few levels of enhancement to particularly the left hand.
